My latest obsession: Tan Towels

I ran into a friend the other day who looked like she had just gotten back from a tropical vacation. When I asked her where she had been she laughed and said, "nowhere...I just use Tan Towels". I was seriously blown away, this definitely did not look like the typical fake tan you get from a lotion or spray.

Luckily, Beauty Brands sells single packets of the Tan Towels so that you can give them a try without investing in a multi-pack. I got the full body Plus towel which is their largest and strongest solution.

Application is a breeze, and not messy like a lotion can be. All you have to do is wipe the towel in a circular motion over your entire body. The Tan Towel says it is also for the face, but I decided to skip that I just wasn't sure how dark my skin would get. After 2-4 hours you can really see the results.

There was a slight odor a few hours after application, but the towels themselves did not smell bad at all. I felt like the color came out very even, although it was lighter than I had hoped it would be. I think you may need to do multiple applications to get to the desired tan that want to achieve.

A tan in a towel? That's what this product claims. A ten pack box will cost you around $20, but Does It Work?

We tested this product using a woman who is a redhead. She has fair skin. "I burn, then I go back to white. I don't tan that easily," says Kristen Ross. She showed us how pale her legs were. Kristen works inside all day, goes home to be a mom the rest of the day. She says she does not have time for the sun.

We saw tan patches on her ankles but her legs had no color to them. Kristen also rubbed her arms with the towel. Again, we could not see a big difference. The instructions even said you may need another application. So that is what Kristen did. "Just apply it again the morning, and we will re-visit you to see if that's made a difference," we said. "OK," said Kristen.

The next day, "All right, it's day two and you applied your second application this morning. Let's take a look at it. I can definitely see a difference," Coy said. "I can too," Kristen agreed.

"Do you like it?," we asked. "Yeah, I like it. I would use it in a crunch. I like the arm. The arm looks very natural," noticed Kristen.

I liked the Tan Towel, Kristen liked it too. The Tan Towel works!

Get A Tan Even In The Rain -- All You Need -- A Towel And Tanning Pill

The rain. It seems like it's been here for weeks, and for East Texans wanting a golden tan, the weather has made it impossible. Or has it?

   The latest in tanning technology is the tan towel.

   Cathy Fuller at Coco's (903-825-2087) on FM 344 can hardly keep it on the shelves.

   "We've had to reorder several times," she explains, but do they work.

Image via Wikipedia   "I really like it," says Becky Morgan who has used tan towels for a month. She says it works and the color lasts a few days, she does offer this warning though.

   "You have to be careful, when you use it cause it's a plain white towel -- so you don't have a color guide. When I first used it I missed a few spots. I then went back with the tanning towel and filled them in. It then looked even."

   Becky also says bathing and shaving wears the color off. That's where products like the tanning pill come in.

   "This has beta carotene -- it stains the skin," says Grace Ram at WHole Health in Tyler (903-581-8811).

   Some of the hottest products at her store are tanning pills like Elu sun and Solair. Both are sold and were created in Europe. They are not FDA approved and they have Vitamin A and E along with carotene inside the pills.

  They supposedly add color to your skin and help enhance a natural or sunless tan. Supposedly they even keep you looking young.

   "They have antioxidants in it and they tend to make your skin softer, so if you did tan in the sun you wouldn't get deep wrinkles."

   So until the sun comes out in East Texas, the latest in tan technology promises the next best thing. But a warning, not everyone should take these pills. Check with your doctor first.

Towel covered body lies on the sand as beach goers barely bat an eyelid

A body, covered by towels, lies under an umbrella while holidaymakers carry on sunbathing.

At first glance these photos seem like any other happy beach scene. Sunbathers bask in the heat, chatting to friends, applying sunlotion and going for a dip in the sea.

However, just yards away from these cheerful beachgoers the body of a drowned man lies wrapped in towels. A large parasol shields the body from one half of the beach but even those who have a good view seem unconcerned. They continue to go about their business, apparently unmoved by the grisly sight which occupies Mappatella beach in Naples with them.

Last year Italy was left shocked after photographs emerged of beach-goers happily sunbathing near the dead bodies of two Gypsy girls on another beach in Naples. At the time the images triggered harsh criticism from Archbishop of the city, Crescenzio Sepe.
